The NFL regular season is just days away. In fact, the first game of the year is on Thursday. For the Philadelphia Eagles though, their first game is on Sunday, against the divisional rivals Washington Redskins.

Good news has officially come for the Eagles as well. It's been widely speculated, but now it appears to be a fact. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson will play in Week 1.

Although DeSean Jackson isn't the main guy for the Eagles anymore, this is still big news. His speed (and underrated route running) opens up a lot for an offense.

Even when Jackson isn't putting up massive numbers, he's something a defense has to constantly worry about. If they're keeping safeties back to protect from the deep ball, that's going to open up the run and short passes more.

Even scarier, Jackson doesn't need a lot of looks to make an impact. All it takes is that one connection for him to have the ability to change a game. And the Redskins know that better than most teams.

Jackson has played for the Eagles for most of his career – a team that's in the same division. That's not all though, the team Jackson played for the second most in his career (three seasons) is the Redskins.

Therefore, Washington knows the dangers of DeSean Jackson. Having him on the field could change the game for the Eagles.

With Jackson ready to go, head coach Doug Peterson has a whole lot more to play with on Sunday. Look for the wide receiver to sprint down the field on a number of routes, looking for that home run play.
