The Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Chicago Bears by a score of 22-14 on Sunday afternoon, meaning Eagles running back Jordan Howard got a win against the team that traded him during the offseason.
Howard made a significant impact in the victory, carrying the ball 19 times for 82 yards and a touchdown.
Afterward, Howard discussed how it felt to beat his former club:
“I just did a little more talking than I usually do,” Howard said, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “There was a little back-and-forth with the guys. Everything else was normal. It was definitely a little strange, because I didn’t really go against them that much in practice. They never really tackled me.”
Howard also said that he was “amped” for the game.
On the season overall, Howard has rushed for 525 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 4.4 yards per carry, a big step forward from last year when he logged just 3.7 yards per attempt.
The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Indiana University, was originally selected by the Bears in the fifth round (150th pick overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft.
He had a terrific rookie campaign, racking up 1,313 yards and six scores while posting 5.1 yards per tote en route to a Pro Bowl appearance. He then registered 1,122 yards and nine touchdowns in 2017, although his efficiency dipped, as he tallied just 4.1 yards per carry.
The Eagles improved to 5-4 with the win. They will have a bye this week before playing host to the New England Patriots the following Sunday.
