The Philadelphia Eagles still have a chance to make the playoffs by beating the Dallas Cowboys in a do-or-die game, so they need all the help they can get to win. Unfortunately, Doug Pederson's team may have to play without running back Jordan Howard.

Chris Mortensen made the update on the rusher's shoulder ahead of the big NFC East game.

Given the amount of time that he's spent away from the team, it may be safe for Eagles fans and fantasy owners to write him off as unavailable to play for the remainder of the season. He hasn't played a minute of football ever since sustaining the Week 9 injury against the Chicago Bears.

It's a shame that the Eagles would have to play without one of their better running backs. While they have more than enough rushing talent in Miles Sanders and Boston Scott, he's definitely one of the more talented rushers in the league. Through nine games and four starts, he's notched 525 yards and six rushing touchdowns. This makes him a more efficient rusher than Sanders, who only has 687 yards and two touchdowns to his name in 14 appearances.

This Eagles-Cowboys game is the ticket fans need to get into the playoffs, and the players will sure take this as seriously as the fans. Tempers will likely flare with everything that at stake in this game.

Per CNN's Adam Renuart:

“We know the importance of this game,” said Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper. “The challenging part about that is, I'm sure Philadelphia does too.”

Doug Pederson, the Eagles head coach and former quarterback, confirmed Cooper's suspicion Friday: “It stems, really, from the fans … when I was a player, there's two games a year they want you to win, and that's when you play Dallas.”

Eagles fans will miss not having Howard in the game, but the players they have on the field could pretty much win this game for them. They just need to put their trust on their team.
