The Philadelphia Eagles were thrilled to pick up a wild 37-34 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills in Week 12, and they managed to do so without star tackle Lane Johnson, who was ruled out with a concerning groin injury despite being fully healthy throughout the week. Thankfully, after some cryptic updates on the status of his injury, it sounds like Johnson has avoided a worst-case scenario.

Johnson practiced throughout the week in the buildup to the Bills contest, but suddenly picked up a groin injury on Sunday morning that held him out for the game. The fear was that Johnson's groin injury was something that would hold him out for an extended period of time, but it sounds like he is just day-to-day for the time being, and he may even have a shot to suit up against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13.

Via Ian Rapoport:

“Eagles Pro Bowl OT Lane Johnson is considered day-to-day after the MRI on his groin on Sunday, sources say, and he has not been ruled out for Philly’s showdown with the 49ers. Johnson practiced fully last week, was not on the injury report, but reported soreness Sunday morning.”

Lane Johnson provides insight into the Eagles' mentality after their Week 10 win against the Dallas Cowboys, Jalen Hurts

This is a great update, as Johnson is a key piece of the Eagles strong offensive line that has helped them win ten games before any other team in the league. Johnson has long been one of the best tackles in the NFL, and while the Eagles managed to sneak past the Bills without him on the field, they may not enjoy the same result if he's out again in Week 13.

For now, it seems like Johnson has avoided a serious injury, and the hope is that this groin injury will only cause him to miss this one game. But as is always the case with these injuries, his status is worth monitoring during the upcoming week, and it will be interesting to see how much he is able to practice after being forced to miss Philly's win over Buffalo.
