Through his first two years in the NFL, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz has shown much promise to become one of the premier players at his position. This path has taken a bit of a difficult after he suffered a torn ACL and LCL last December that could change the trajectory of his career.

It is a serious injury if not handled correctly could lead to lingering issues and potential mental hurdles that are often times hard to get past. According to Jeff McLane of The Inquirer, head coach Doug Pederson is hoping that Wentz can take a page out of the book from reigning league MVP Tom Brady regarding protecting himself better physically.

“I’m going to sit down and talk to him,” Eagles coach Doug Pederson said last week at the NFL owners meetings. “Longevity is everything in this business. Learn from the best. Learn from Tom Brady, who got hurt early in his career. And learn from guys that have done that and yet still went on to have great careers and long careers.”

Aside from an ACL tear in the first game of the 2008 NFL season, Brady has been a highly durable player playing every game that he has been eligible to do so over the last nine season with the only other campaign where he failed to take the field in all 16 games was in 2016 where he had to serve a four-game ban.

Nonetheless, Brady is a strong choice for Wentz to model that part of his game after. Although the third-year quarterback is much more athletic than the future Hall of Famer, there are some things he can model his body movements around to better keep himself from harm's way for the long haul.

This is a major adjustment period for Wentz having to adjust to playing with a knee brace for likely the rest of his career while learning to protect himself will both be necessary for him to have longevity in the NFL.
