The Philadelphia Eagles are widely believed to be moving on from five-year veteran quarterback Carson Wentz after the team’s dispiriting 3-8-1 season in 2020.

Though Wentz made one Pro Bowl and helped pilot the team to a Super Bowl-winning season during his Eagles tenure, it was memorably Nick Foles who actually played during the playoffs for Philly due to a Wentz injury.

Now, according to reporting from Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter, the Eagles are looking to acquire a similar haul to what the Detroit Lions got for former Pro-Bowler Matthew Stafford.

“The Eagles are said to be looking for, in the words of one well-placed source, ‘a Matthew Stafford package’ in return for Wentz. The Lions traded Stafford to the Rams last weekend for a third-round pick this year, two future first-round picks and quarterback Jared Goff, the player selected directly in front of Wentz as the top two picks in the 2016 NFL draft.”

Though Wentz is younger than Stafford, he isn’t that much older (Stafford is 32, Wentz is 28), and Stafford has been in the league for 12 seasons compared to Wentz’s five. Beyond that, Stafford has piled up a bevy of impressive statistical feats during his time in Detroit.

Wentz, for his part, has achieved an Approximate Value of 10 or higher in three of his first five seasons, but Stafford has failed to hit at least 10 AV in only three of his 12 seasons – all three of which were impacted by injuries.

It’s clear that a deal for Wentz is on the way soon, but it will be interesting to see if the Eagles haul is bigger, smaller or the same as the one the Lions got for Stafford.
