The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the few teams who have yet to hire a new head coach. Apparently, their coaching vacancy comes with a caveat. According to the NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, candidates who are interviewing for the Eagles job are being told they will need to work with Carson Wentz.

Seeing that the Eagles seemingly fired Doug Pederson due to him reportedly wanting to move forward with Jalen Hurts as the starting quarterback, it's not a surprise that Philadelphia wants their next head coach to work with Wentz. With that being a deal-breaker, making Wentz a priority could deter some candidates from accepting the job.

Wentz had a dismal season in 2020, posting career-worsts in completion percentage (57.4), passing yards (2.620), passing touchdowns (16), and interceptions (15). His 15 interceptions were the most in the NFL despite playing in 12 games and he also had four lost fumbles.

The decision to draft Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft surprised many given the fact that the Eagles handed Wentz a massive extension before the 2019 season. However, Hurts would end up becoming the starter to end this season due to the struggles of Wentz.

With the amount of teams that had openings at head coach decreasing rapidly, Philadelphia is likely narrowing their coaching search down to their final candidates. If any of the candidates are fully committed to helping fix Wentz as a quarterback, then they may separate themselves from the rest of the pack as the Eagles make a final decision on the vacancy.
