The Philadelphia Eagles, despite the best efforts of Josh McCown and Zach Ertz were just too injured to overcome the Seattle Seahawks in the opening round of the playoffs on Sunday afternoon.

With starting tight end Zach Ertz leading the way despite suffering injured ribs and a lacerated kidney a few weeks back, backup quarterback Josh McCown was also forced into action against the Seahawks as the team's starter under center in Carson Wentz almost immediately went down with what appeared to be a head injury.

Even though this was not the expected lineup for the severely banged up Eagles, the tandem of Zach Ertz and Josh McCown gave it their all even in a losing effort. As a result of leaving everything out on the field and still coming up short, this duo could be seen embracing on the field after Sunday afternoon's loss at home in Philadelphia.

Zach Ertz was not even really supposed to be active on Sunday afternoon against the Seahawks as injured ribs and a lacerated kidney are not typically a recipe for success on the field. On the other hand, Wentz was starting his first ever postseason game against Seattle as the veteran signal caller is usually the one on the sideline injured. Josh McCown was pressed into service.

Despite this unfortunate turn of events in which McCown was summoned off the bench, Wentz was actually one of the few Eagles players on offense to remain completely healthy throughout the 2019 regular season — until Sunday's matchup in Philadelphia.

Wentz almost immediately left the contest and made his way to the team's medical tent before quickly heading back into the locker room area. Zach Ertz lost his trusted starting quarterback. Wentz did not return, which paved the way for McCown to also made his playoff debut.

The Eagles have to live with the difficult reality that Wentz was sturdy in the regular season, unlike previous regular seasons in Philadelphia, only for him to get injured in the playoffs and limit the Eagles' upside in a big moment the team had worked hard to earn, beating the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East race. Zach Ertz and Josh McCown fell short, but not for a lack of trying.
