The Philadelphia Eagles signed running back Jay Ajayi back to the team during November after running back Darren Sproles got hurt. Now, the team is once again parting ways with Ajayi, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter noted that the Eagles officially waived Ajayi on Tuesday.

Ajayi didn’t contribute too much to the Eagles this time around, as he rushed for just 30 yards on 10 attempts, and didn’t score any touchdowns with the team. As the Eagles prepare for their final game, it's likely that they'll continue to stick with young running back Miles Sanders the rest of the way, so Ajayi simply didn’t have a spot left on the depth chart. Now, Ajayi will have to hope he can catch on with another team looking to add some playoff depth, or else he might be left waiting to join a team during its offseason.

As for the Eagles, they find themselves one game away from making a surprise push to the playoffs. After defeating the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, the Eagles are now in first place in the NFC East, and a victory over the New York Giants next week would result in them winning the division and locking in a spot in the playoffs.

It would be a shocking run for the Eagles, as they looked about done following a difficult loss to the Miami Dolphins. However, a handful of wins—including last-minute victories over the Giants and Redskins—have catapulted the Eagles back into first place, and now they’ll look to finish the job against New York one last time.
