Phoenix Suns head coach Earl Watson was faced with a hard decision. He has three talented guards and two spots to fill – one of them needs to come off the bench, but who?

Watson had an established guard in Eric Bledsoe, who has played backup to the likes of Chris Paul. Bledsoe learned his craft, waiting for his chance to be a starter in the league.

Then there is Brandon Knight, a shifty scoring guard that can fill it up in a hurry, but isn't necessarily strong in other areas.

And don't forget about Devin Booker, a 19-year-old that was the sixth man at the University of Kentucky, was drafted by the Suns and had an impressive showing last season. He started the last 44 games of the 2015-16 season.

Watson opted to start Bledsoe and Booker, as it seems to be a more well-rounded backcourt than two ball-dominant players on offense and another in a clear size disadvantage on defense.

Knight, then, who will come off the bench as the team's sixth man – but that doesn't mean he's not important to the team. Quite the contrary, in fact.

“(Knight) is the most important player on our team,” Watson told Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic. “He understands that because he’s giving up the most and he’s also the most impactful. The things he will be able to do to propel us at all times throughout the game gives us firepower that I don’t think a lot of teams can match.”

The 6-foot-3 point guard's move to the bench might actually be the best fit for his dynamic, as he can be the focal point of the offense in the second unit and share court time with Bledsoe and Booker in stretches.

“Losing teams talk about who’s starting,” Watson said. “Winning teams just accept their role and be the best at it. Brandon is going to be pretty special for us. Brandon could be one of the best sixth man to ever play, especially in this NBA era.”

Knight declined an interview on Monday after the starting lineup was released by Watson. The transition might be a hard one and that's likely the reason Watson is going out of his way to sing such high praise about his star.
