Amid the craze of the first day of NBA Free Agency, the Orlando Magic have pulled off their second big signing of the day, securing Evan Fournier with a 5-year, 85 million dollar deal on Friday afternoon.

Fournier has spent the previous 2 seasons in Orlando after beginning his career with the Denver Nuggets. Fournier started 71 of the 79 games that he played in for the Magic during the 2015-2016 season, averaging 15.4 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in just over 32 minutes per-game.

At 23 years old, Fournier is shaping himself to be the next great shooting guard in the NBA, shooting 40 percent from behind the arc and just over 46 percent from the field. With stats like those, Fournier stands as the Magic’s greatest weapon on a team full of young and blooming talent.

The 5-year deal definitely sends the message to Fournier what the expectations are of him, as the Magic recently traded-away another young shooting guard in Victor Oladipo. Fournier will have to improve his defense to match his offensive production, and he will have to be a leader in the locker room, but there is no doubt to the Magic that he will be worth every penny spent on Fournier’s first non-Rookie contract.
