The Atlanta Falcons have had some placekicking troubles during the preseason. Before deciding to sign veteran Blair Walsh, Atlanta considered bringing back Matt Bryant.

“Definitely had discussed Matt, for sure, but we didn’t bring him in for a workout (on Saturday),” Falcons coach Dan Quinn said.

Of course, as many know, Bryant spent the past 10 seasons as the Falcons kicker and was extremely efficient for them. Over the past 10 seasons, Bryant made 250 of his 282 field-goal attempts in Atlanta. The 44-year old placekicker also missed just three of his extra-point attempts during his time with the Falcons.

In February, Atlanta decided to release the 17-year veteran and chose to go with Giorgio Tavecchio instead. Through three weeks in the preseason, Tavecchio has made things tough on Dan Quinn before the regular season.

Tavecchio has made just four of his eight field-goal tries in the preseason. The 29-year old kicker made all five of his field goals with the team in 2018.

On Saturday, the Falcons held a workout for a few kickers in the hope of finding somebody to compete with Tavecchio. Among a group of Younghoe Koo, Elliott Fry, and Blair Walsh, the team chose Walsh.

Walsh was out of football in 2018 and last kicked with the Seattle Seahawks in 2017. That season, Walsh struggled mightily, making 21 of his 29 field-goal kicks.

The Falcons have one more preseason game to make the ultimate decision on who the team's kicker will be to begin the 2019 season. If neither works out, the Falcons could pick up the phone and give Bryant a call.
