The Atlanta Falcons appear to be closing in on their next head coach. Reports have now surfaced that this could come in the form of Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

This report comes via Dianna Russini of ESPN:

As it turns out, the Falcons have had their eye on Smith for some time now. Clearly, Atlanta has been impressed with what the 38-year-old has achieved with the Titans over the past couple of years, and the franchise is now prepared to hand over the reins of the squad to him. With Smith calling the plays, Tennessee scored over 30 points per game this season en route to an AFC South title, though the team fell short against the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round.

Should Smith agree to the deal (right now we see no reason as to why he would not), he will be succeeding former full-time Falcons coach Dan Quinn, who the team fired early in the season after an 0-5 start. In the interim, Atlanta assigned Raheem Morris to take on the vacated post, but as it appears, a promotion to a permanent status just wasn't in the books for Morris.

Smith has served multiple roles during his stint in Tennessee, which includes defensive quality control coach, offensive quality control coach, tight ends coach, as well as offensive line assistant. He may be relatively young, but Smith has a ton of experience under his belt.

The Falcons appear to be the next team to be announcing their new head coach following the New York Jets officially signing former San Francisco 49ers OC Robert Saleh as their new head honcho.
