Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn knew that Julio Jones would be reporting to training camp even with the talk about Jones being unhappy with his contract.

Late Wednesday, the team announced that they would be giving Jones a boost to his salary this season, but didn't rework the entire contract. According to ESPN, the salary jump is at least $2 million for this season, and the team plans to revise his contract in 2019.

Coach Quinn said he assumed that Jones would report after he worked out with Matt Ryan and some other Falcons teammates in California earlier this month.

“I probably didn't feel the same stress that you and the fan base had,” Quinn said. “I know there were some reports out regarding him not coming. … I've known he was coming to camp for a while. And that's part of good communication, player to coaches. It wasn't necessarily where I was not expecting him to be here.

“But I am glad, between Thomas and their side, usually, when there's something to get done, they work together and find a way to figure it out. I think that's a good example between Thomas and Jimmy [Sexton], who is Julio's representation.”

The Falcons usually don't like to rework contracts with three years remaining, but it was a different case with Jones. He is one of the best wide receivers in the league and right now his deal is looking like a steal. If Jones wasn't on the field this season, it would be a big blow to the Falcons' chances.
