The Atlanta Falcons have long been working on a contract extension for wide receiver Julio Jones, and while we have heard multiple times that a deal was “close,” nothing has actually been completed.

Jones has been a good soldier throughout the entire process, and Falcons head coach Dan Quinn seems very happy with the way his wide out has handled the situation.

“I have no new updates to provide you on that,” Quinn said, according to D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Sometimes the business sides do intersect. Sometimes they can creep in a little bit. If anybody has done some business or contract negotiations, you know there are two sides to it. If I chimed in, it would be a third side.”

Quinn extrapolated to say that he has not been involved with negotiations and is simply hoping an agreement is reached soon.

“I’m not part of those conversations and calls,” said Quinn. “I’m confident that they’ll get together and get some stuff done. I’m definitely ready to move it from negotiations to celebrations. I just hope that takes place. He’s here and doing well in terms of practice for today.”

Jones has two years remaining on his current deal and is scheduled to earn $9.6 million this season and $11.426 million in 2020.

The 30-year-old is coming off of a spectacular 2018 campaign in which he led the NFL with 1,677 receiving yards while hauling in 113 receptions and scoring eight touchdowns, en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Jones has paced the league in receptions once and receiving yards twice throughout his career.
