Falcons QB Matt Ryan confronts possibility of Julio Jones leaving Atlanta
There’s not one quarterback out there who would not want to have someone like Julio Jones, who could simply make passers look good. Atlanta Falcons signal-caller Matt Ryan could definitely attest to that, as someone who has benefited greatly from his partnership with the veteran wide receiver.
But with rumors of the Falcons looking at the possibility of trading Jones this offseason, which Ryan clearly has already heard of, it appears that the quarterback would rather just observe the development from a distance, per Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.
“I hope he’s here. He’s been such an awesome teammate. Really, and I’ve said this before, I don’t think anybody has impacted my career as significantly as him. I’ve been very fortunate to ride along with him for 10 years. So we’ll see what happens. But I also don’t want to get involved in anybody else’s business. That’s for him to handle.”
Jones is 32, and while his best days are behind him, he is still an incredible asset to have for any team. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star’s current deal with the Falcons will not expire until the end of the 2023 NFL season, though he has a potential out in 2022.
It’s not surprising to hear Ryan say that he wants Jones to stay in Atlanta, but at the same time, the Falcons could also be trying to gauge interest in the legendary wideout while he still has some considerable value in the market.
More should be known about the future of Jones as the offseason continues.
