Dirk Koetter served as offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons from 2012 through 2014, and in 2015, he made his way over to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he was offensive coordinator for one season before being promoted to head coach, where he remained for three seasons.

Now, Koetter is back in Atlanta as the Falcons' offensive coordinator, and Matt Ryan is thrilled about the opportunity to work with him again.

“I’m excited to work with Dirk again,” Ryan said, according to Steve Hummer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I learned so much from him the first time around. He’s kind of picked up a few things along the way, too, come up with some really good stuff. It’s been a lot of fun the last couple months of getting back to work with Dirk.”

Ryan says he learned a whole lot from Koetter during Dirk's first go-around in Atlanta.

“I learned a lot in the passing game, a lot about how to process information at the quarterback position in the passing game from him,” said Ryan. “How to eliminate certain things early, pre-snap. I felt like I made a big jump during those years in terms of learning keys and really understanding about eliminating certain parts of progression to make you play faster to make you play more clear-headed.”

While the Falcons were disappointing as a whole this past season, winning just seven games and missing the playoffs, Ryan was fantastic, throwing for 4,924 yards, 35 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 69.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 108.1.

The 34-year-old has made three Pro Bowls during his NFL career, most recently appearing in 2016 when he also won MVP.
