Following months of speculation, the Atlanta Falcons agreed to a record-breaking extension with star quarterback Matt Ryan on a five-year, $150 million deal with $100 million in guarantees. It has made him the highest-paid player and quarterback in league history.

According to D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Ryan voiced that this new deal has sharpened his focus toward winning a Super Bowl for the franchise

“I’m going to do everything that I can to try and help this city and this organization win a championship,” Ryan said. “That’s been my mindset since I was drafted here in 2008. I’ve been working hard at it for 10 years and I’m going to continue to work at as long as I play here.”

This new deal now puts a tremendous amount of expectations ahead of the 32-year-old to bring the franchise a championship. It also shows a huge leap of faith in Ryan being the quarterback that can lead the Falcons to the Super Bowl over the duration of the deal.

In his first 10 seasons in the NFL, Ryan has brought stability and great success to the Falcons franchise with six playoff appearances and three NFC South division titles. He has led the team to .500 or better records eight times while notching double-digit wins six times. He's also strung together an impressive career that has seen him earn four Pro Bowl selections, a First-Team All-Pro nod, an NFL MVP award and the NFL Offensive Player of the Year.

It is now on Ryan's shoulders to take the franchise to the next level by leading them back to the Super Bowl with a different result the next time around. He has the job security in place and additional talent around him to take that next step in Atlanta, which presents the prime opportunity in front of him to follow through on that ultimate goal.
