Dirk Koetter is back as the Atlanta Falcons' offensive coordinator, and he is thrilled to have the opportunity to coach quarterback Matt Ryan again.

Koetter had high praise for Ryan when asked about his signal-caller by reporters, saying that he is a very unique player and will always have an impact on which direction the Falcons go.

“What Matt can do — he did it when I was here the first time — he tells you what he doesn't like and why,” said Koetter, according to Will McFadden of the Falcons' official team website. “Just one of the things I've learned over the years is I might think something is the greatest idea known to man, if the quarterback doesn't like it, it's probably not going to go on Sunday. I think Matt will always have a huge impact on what our final game plan is when we get to that point in the season.”

Koetter was originally Atlanta's offensive play-caller from 2012 through 2014 before making his way to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he served as the offensive coordinator for one year before being promoted to head coach in 2016.

He spent three seasons as the Buccaneers' head coach, going 19-29 before being fired following a 5-11 campaign this past year.

Ryan is coming off of a season in which he threw for 4,924 yards, 35 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 69.4 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 108.1.

A four-time Pro Bowler, Ryan was named the league's Most Valuable Player in 2016 after racking up 4,944 yards, 38 touchdowns and seven picks, completing 69.9 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 117.1.
