Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) will play the Thing in the MCU's Fantastic Four.

During an appearance on The Daily Show, Moss-Bachrach was asked about his training for the MCU movie. He revealed that he was staring at rocks for the part.

“I'm playing Ben Grimm, who becomes the Thing, who's a man encased in rock,” Moss-Bachrach said. “I've just been looking at rocks.”

In all seriousness, Moss-Bachrach is reading the Marvel comics. He was gifted a subscription to Marvel Unlimited to catch up on the comics.

“They gave me this Marvel Unlimited thing, so I can just go on my iPad and go to any comic book that Marvel's ever released,” he said.

The other host, Ronny Chieng, previously appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings as Jon Jon. He welcomed his fellow MCU star to the franchise.

“As someone who was in Shang-Chi for five seconds, I want to welcome you to the Marvel Universe,” Chieng quipped.

Moss-Bachrach then reflected on getting the offer to star in The Punisher. He gave a less-than-enthused reaction due to being on vacation with his family.

“I was on a summer trip with my family in Croatia when they asked me to do it,” he recalled. “I got a call at 2:00 in the morning from this Beverly Hills number and it was the head of Netflix-Marvel.

“It was like 2:00 in the morning, my wife and my daughters were sleeping in the same room, and he was like, ‘Ebon, I'm going to tell you three words that are going to change your life: ‘Welcome to Marvel.' And I was like, [whispering] ‘Oh, thank you so much, man. That sounds great.' And he was so disappointed in me,” he continued.

In the upcoming Fantastic Four MCU movie, Moss-Bachrach will play Ben Grimm/the Thing. Previously, Michael Bailey Smith, Michael Chiklis, and Jamie Bell played the part in previous Fantastic Four iterations.

This is not Moss-Bachrach's first MCU rodeo, though. He starred in the first season of The Punisher in 2017 as David “Micro” Lieberman.

Perhaps best known for his role in The Bear, Ebon Moss-Bachrach is an award-winning actor. He has also appeared in TV series such as The Dropout and Andor. His other movie credits include Sharp Stick and No Hard Feelings.

The MCU's Fantastic Four

Nearly a decade after Fox last attempted to make a Fantastic Four movie, Disney and Marvel Studios will take their swing at Marvel's First Family. Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Moss-Bachrach will star in the movie as the team members.

Julia Garner, Ralph Ineson, John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, and Natasha Lyonne were later cast in other roles.

Matt Shakman, who created the MCU's WandaVision series, will direct the movie. The Fantastic Four is slated for a July 25, 2025, release date as a part of Phase Six of the franchise.

It will be the third MCU movie released in 2025 (Blade will follow it in November). The Fantastic Four also has the distinction of being the first movie released as a part of Phase Six.
