For better or worse, Zach Dean, who developed the story of Fast X, is writing Fast and Furious 11 (aka Fast X: Part Two), per Vin Diesel.

In an Instagram post, Diesel shared an image of him with Paul Walker in a past Fast and Furious film.

“While doing ADR this week on the Universal lot, for a beautifully written piece by Chris Morgan… I was reminded of the blessed moments along this journey… where bonds transcended film,” his caption began.

Later in the post, Diesel revealed Dean as the screenwriter for the upcoming sequel. He promised that the script is “going to hit you hard!”

Who is Zach Dean?

This is a pretty big development for Fast and Furious 11. Zach Dean is known for writing Prime Video's The Tomorrow War, which starred Chris Pratt. He has also written Deadfall and 24 Hours to Live.

While he developed the story for Fast X, Dan Mazeau and Justin Lin wrote the screenplay. The duo of Mazeau and Lin also helped develop the story. Lin is an experienced director in the Fast and Furious franchise, previously directing five films in the franchise.

And he was supposed to direct his sixth with Fast X. However, he was replaced by Louis Leterrier.

Was Fast X a hit?

After grossing over $700 million, Fast X sounds like a major blockbuster hit. However, the film's budget ballooned to over $300 million, making it harder for the film to turn a profit.

In Fast X, Dom (Vin Diesel) faces a threat from his past, Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa). He has to protect his family and team up with familiar faces in the film.

Aside from Diesel and Momoa, a lot of familiar faces from the Fast and Furious franchise return. Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, John Cena, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Jason Statham, Sung Kang, Charlize Theron, Helen Mirren, and Scott Eastwood all returned in the film.

Franchise newcomers include Alan Ritchson, Brie Larson, and Rita Moreno. In a shocking twist, both Gal Gadot and Dwayne Johnson returned in the film's third act and mid-credits scene, respectively.

Fast and Furious 11 appears to be the final installment in the main saga. In February 2024, Diesel called the film a “grand finale” to the franchise. Where the franchise goes from there remains unclear.

While its future is unclear, the Fast and Furious franchise is one of the biggest in Hollywood. To date, the franchise's 11 films (including the Hobbs and Shaw spin-off) have grossed over $7.3 billion worldwide. Two installments in the series (Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious) have grossed over $1 billion individually.

The Fast and Furious franchise launched the career of Vin Diesel. He first gained fame for his roles in Saving Private Ryan and The Iron Giant. After the first Fast and Furious film, Diesel would lead the XXX franchise. Pitch Black came out before Fast and Furious in 2000, but it took off after the success of the street racing film.

Later in his career, Diesel would make his way to the MCU. He starred as Groot in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise and also appeared in Avengers films such as Infinity War and Endgame.
