Fast X came and went, but Fast and Furious 11 is on the horizon. Tyrese Gibson has provided a filming update on the film that should fire up fans of the Vin Diesel-led series.

In an interview with CBR, Gibson revealed that the upcoming film will commence shooting in “the top of” 2025. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes were cited as a reason the film hadn't gone into production sooner.

“Because of the strike, both strikes, there were some real delays in writing and kind of getting the film up on its feet,” Gibson explained. “I'm hearing that we're going to get it going right in 2025, right at the top of the year.”

Per CBR's report, the eleventh Fast and Furious film is slated for an April 4, 2025 release date from Universal. Evidently, this is unlikely to happen, especially if the film doesn't begin shooting until 2025. That would be a tight schedule for any film, especially a tentpole blockbuster of this magnitude.

He further discussed how the film is facing the pressure to hit new gears. After all, both Gal Gadot and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson made their triumphant returns to the franchise in Fast X. However, he seems excited about the challenge.

“I think right now the pressure is to elevate the movie and take the film to some other levels,” Gibson said. “As you've seen, Gal Gadot and The Rock are back, which is exciting.”

What is Fast and Furious 11 about?

It's unclear what exactly Fast and Furious 11 will be about. The ending of Fast X was a cliffhanger. Dom (Vin Diesel) and Little B. (Leo Abelo Perry) drive off a cliff to escape Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa). Meanwhile, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) and Cipher (Charlize Theron) are saved in Antarctica by a returning Gisele (Gal Gadot).

However, in his interview with CBR, Gibson explained how the writers will seemingly be taking notes from the fans.

“I know that fans over the years have been wanting to kind of ground the film and get back to more of the street racing and get away from being in outer space and all the other stuff,” he acknowledged. “I think right now they're in the basement, they're riding, they're cooking, they're really trying to pull it together, to make sure that the fans can show up and really enjoy the film.”

The interviewer then asked if this meant that Fast and Furious 11 would be similar to the early films in the franchise. That appears to be the case with a lot more street racing.

“That's what I'm hearing,” Gibson revealed. “I'm hearing they're listening to the fans and feedback and kind of what the fans want, and so I think it's going to be taking up a few more notches on the street racing stuff.

“At the same time, the purpose of [the movie] is to entertain. You're supposed to eat at least three full buckets of popcorn while watching The Fast and The Furious, and we've done our job with entertaining,” he continued.
