Here is a summary of the recently concluded Final Fantasy 14 (FFXIV) Live Letter 82, which includes more news about the upcoming version 7.0, some Dawntrail updates, and more.

FFXIV Live Letter 82 Summary

FFXIV Live Letter 82 aired on June 14, 2024. The announcement on the website mentioned that Live Letter 82 will cover 7.0 news, as well as some other announcements.

Although the live stream is primarily in Japanese, live translations were provided during the live stream. The Live Letter's hosts are the FFXIV Producer Naoki Yoshida and Global Community Producer Toshio Murouchi. Joining them is Aimi Tokutake, who was in charge of the live translations.

Live Letter 82 started with the launch trailer, giving players a glimpse of what they can expect from the story of Dawntrail. This includes the fight for the throne, the mysterious enemies players will face in Solution 9, as well as the unknown lady featured in the expansion's key art.

This was followed by the release of the launch trailer in Japanese, English (US), English (UK), German, and French, and a second viewing of the launch trailer. The hosts themselves mentioned that players should watch the trailer in their own language, as the stream showed the Japanese version of the trailer.

After the second viewing, they announced that the game was still on schedule for Early Access, which players could access if they pre-order the game. As revealed, the same would enter Early Access on June 28, 2024, with the full release date on July 2, 2024.

Yoshida mentioned how players were asking for a summer vacation, to which he replied that they were already going to start work on the story for version 8.0.

Afterward, he reminded players that the information available online from the Media Tour was from in-development versions of the game. Tweaks and adjustments are currently being made to the game, like the potency of abilities and the like.

Yoshida and Murouchi then jumped into a recap of the already-known information. They started with updated screenshots of the new cities and areas, starting with Tuliyollal.

Urqopacha was shown to those who participated in the Media Tour. This was also the location of the Training Dummies featured during Live Letter 81.

Next in the presentation is Kozama'uka, characterized by giant waterfalls, rivers, numerous colorful trees, and more.

Following this is Shaaloani, which players have continuously likened to a Wild West town. The hosts then jokingly mentioned how players were worried about the fishing conditions in Shaaloani.

Next is Heritage Found, the futuristic-looking city haunted with dark skies, and an even darker atmosphere. They did not touch up a lot on this, as it

Immediately following Heritage Found is Solution Nine, the futuristic city that “looks like it's from a different game”.

They brought up that players in the chat want the motorcycles to be amount, to which the hosts replied that there is a mount available that transforms, which they think players will like.

That's all for the updated screenshots that they can freely show without giving away any spoilers. They then moved on to talk about FFXIV 7.0 Dawntrail's key characters.

This includes characters we already know about, such as Wuk Lamat, Erenville, Krile, Thancred, Urianger. They also, however, mentioned new characters:

  • Gulool Ja Ja, Tuliyollal's leader
  • Zoraal Ja, commander of the Landsguard and another Dawnservant Candidate
  • Koana, Gulool Ja Ja's adoptive son with a knack for technology and innovation
  • Bakool Ja Ja, a candidate who believes one-headed beings are inferior
  • the Enigmatic Maiden, a lady shrouded in mystery

They then moved on to talk about the new content in FFXIV 7.0, such as the new Role Quests. The Role Quests will unlock at Level 92, with the hosts suggesting that players do the Role Quests as they make their way through the Main Scenario Quest (MSQ).

As always, there are five questlines: Tank, Healer, Melee DPS, Physical Ranged DPS, and Magical Ranged DPS. Extra quests for completing all five questlines will be added in Patch 7.1 or later.

They then talked about the Viper and Pictomancer Questlines. The Viper quests involve hunting monsters, while the Pictomancer quests involve Moogles.

There are also new Disciples of the Hand and Land quests, starting with the Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries. There are a total of five questlines for the Deliveries:

  • Blacksmith/Armorer/Goldsmith
  • Carpenter/Leatherworker/Weaver
  • Alchemist/Culinarian
  • Miner/Botanist
  • Fisher

Extra quests for completing all five questlines will be added in Patch 7.1 or later.

Next, are the new Dungeons coming to FFXIV in Patch 7.0. Yoshida and Murouchi showed screenshots for the game's new dungeons, including those we only saw from concept art. This includes the well-known boat dungeon, the cave dungeon, and a futuristic-looking dungeon.

They then moved on to the expansion New Trials, which they showed off using gameplay. They showed off the stage for the Valigarmanda. The trial happens on a raised platform with no walls, meaning players can fall off and instantly die (watch out Dragoons).

Yoshida showed off the first part of the fight, which had some interesting visuals. It also featured a new pop-up system, similar to the Active Time Maneuver already in the game. This popup acts as a prompt for attacks. For example, the prompt before Valigarmanda's first attack read “The wind gathers around Valigarmanda”.

This is a feature that they are implementing in the upcoming trials and is something they plan to implement to older content as well.

After a short break, they brought up the topic of whether or not players could stream the Early Access period of Dawntrail, to which they said that players could.

Afterward, they mentioned FFXIV 7.0's new Raid series: The Arcadion. They first showed off the gameplay of one of the Raid battles, which featured a futuristic-looking floating platform, laser beams crisscrossed over it, and an enemy called the Black Cat.

The Black Cat has various attacks, such as alternating half-stage attacks, staggered AoE attacks, and the usual Tankbuster and Stack attacks.

Going back to The Arcadion, the raid series' first part will come out on FFXIV Dawntrail Patch 7.01. The Savage version of said first part will then come out in FFXIV Dawntrail Patch 7.05.

Afterward, they talked about the new Treasure Dungeon, which will arrive in Patch 7.05. The new dungeon is called Cenote Ja Ja Gural, and they joked that it was an alternative for players who did not want to do Savage raids.

Following this are the Gathering and Crafting Adjustments. For Gatherers, the following adjustments will be implemented:

  • New Actions and Traits
  • New Gathering Points
  • New Regional Folklore
  • New Scrip: Orange Gatherers' Scrip
  • The Integrity of a gathering point will now be shown in the gathering interface
  • The Fish Guide will now display the type of hook required for a catch.

As for the Crafters, the following adjustments will be implemented:

  • New Actions and Traits
  • New Recipes
  • New Master Recipes (will arrive in Patch 7.05)
  • New Scrip: Orange Crafters' Scrip

Afterward, they talked about overall System Adjustments. Following the removal of Endwalker Tomestones in Dawntrail, there will be new Tomestones introduced to the game. These are the Allagan Tomestones of Aesthetics, Allagan Tomestones of Heliometry (arriving in FFXIV Dawntrail Patch 7.05).

They then revealed some of the Tomestone gear that players could trade the Tomestones of Heliometry for, like the Warrior, Reaper, Bard, Astrologian, Pictomancer, Samurai, Dragoon, Ninja, and Black Mage. The designs vary from traditional armor and gear, to more futuristic ones.

Players can now also carry more Bicolor Gemstones, as the carry cap has been increased to 1,500 from 1,000.

A new option will also be added to the game that allows players to hide nearby players whenever they are close to an NPC or object with a quest icon on it. By default, this option is off and must be turned on.

Turning the option on has two further options. The first option will hide players in a radius around the NPC or object, allowing the player to click on them. The second option will hide players around the NPC or object only once the player has interacted with them.

Emotes and recipes for delivery items will now also be accessible from the duty list, similar to the usable quest items icon currently available. They then moved on to one of the most anticipated new features: Dyeing adjustments.

As mentioned in previous live letters, two different dyes can now be applied to gear. Equipment that arrive in FFXIV with Dawntrail has this feature by default. Older equipment and glamour will receive this functionality in future patches in batches, with some gear tagged as a higher priority.

It is estimated that all gear will support this functionality by Patch 7.4. Other than that, there will now be an option to set favored dyes, allowing players to select dyes quickly. There will also be an option to save previously applied dyes, allowing players to quickly apply dyes to new armor.

Another much-awaited system adjustment is the Facewear mechanic. Players are now allowed to wear Spectacles (Fashion Accessories) alongside their headgear. As long as the player unlocks the base Facewear, players will be able to equip them (and their 12 total color variations) for free.

Afterward, they showcased some of the other fashion accessories, namely the umbrellas and parasols. Once they were done, they then moved on to new minions arriving in FFXIV in Patch 7.0. Minions include the corn and a buff Cactuar, among others.

They also showed off some of the new mounts, such as a pair of wings (yes, it is a mount), a flying squirrel, a mechanical flying creature, an alpaca, and the Oppressor from the Alexander raids.

There are also adjustments to the game's Fantasia system, which was brought up before. The main change is that for up to 60 minutes of in-game play time, players may adjust their character as many times as they like. This is an upgrade to the one-time change that Fantasias give players right now.

The Companion App will also receive an update, allowing players to customize the main menu and wallpaper. Additionally, players can now assign Hunting, Mining, Botany, and Fishing ventures from the app, although this will still require kupo nuts and mog coins.

There will also be various housing updates, such as a new house for Small, Medium, and Large plots that looks like it came out of a cottagecore game.

They then talked about the upcoming schedule. On June 28, Patch 7.0 will officially release, and FFXIV Dawntrail Early Access will launch. On July 2, the new expansion will officially launch. Then, on July 16, 2024, Patch 7.01 will come out, introducing The Arcadion.

On July 30, Patch 7.05 will arrive, bringing with it The Arcadion (Savage), Cenote Ja Ja Gural, Allagan Tomestones of Heliometry, Master Recipes, and Crafted Gear.

Afterward, they talked about the size of the patch. The patch is expected to be around 55GB. On PC, the game will have a final size of around 90 GB. On PS5, it will be around 75GB and around 80GB on PS4. On Xbox, the game will have to overwrite quite a lot of files, so the download will be around 100GB.

They closed off the FFXIV Live Letter 82 with some additional announcements. For starters, the Final Fantasy X Uniqlo makes a return, starting on June 24, 2024, local time in North America.

Gong cha and FFXIV will also have a collab, starting on July 17, 2024, to August 28, 2024. Ordering three drinks in one transaction will reward players with the Porxie King mount.
