According to a story published this morning by TMZ Sports, disgraced former NBA referee Tim Donaghy was arrested on Monday night in Florida for allegedly threatening another man with a hammer.

As said by a report from TMZ Sports:

Donaghy was arrested in Florida on Tuesday for allegedly threatening a man with a hammer … but he told police the only reason he was even in that situation was to save his daughter.

According to the police report, Tim believed his daughter was doing drugs with a friend at a nearby home — so he grabbed a hammer and went to get her.

While Tim was arguing with his daughter outside the home, he was confronted by another man — the father of his daughter’s friend.

The man claims Tim brandished the hammer and threatened to use it if he came any closer.

After the police were called, Donaghy was placed under arrest and charged with aggravated assault. The Manatee County Sherrif's Office also released Donaghy's mugshot.

According to ESPN, the 50-year-old Donaghy appeared in court on Tuesday and was released on $5,000 bond. He was given a Jan. 19 court date to return for his arraignment.

Donaghy's attorney also told TMZ Sports that his client did not assault threaten or assault anyone on Monday night and only had the hammer for his own protection. Donaghy insists he was just trying to be a good father, but why even bring a hammer in the first place like that?
