George Russell didn't have the dream home race that he was hoping for. The Mercedes Formula 1 driver was part of a scary crash not long after the British Grand Prix began, sending Zhou Guanyu's Alfa Romeo tumbling towards the wall and resulting in him being stretchered out of the track.

Russell's Mercedes wasn't unfit to continue racing, nor was it severely damaged during the incident. But he made the decision to get out of the vehicle right away in order to check on his incapacitated F1 peer. Mercedes's pleas towards race marshals to let George Russell participate in the restart fell on deaf ears, but most still praised the young driver for his heroic gesture.

Russell sent out a message on Twitter while the race was still ongoing:

“First of all, the most important thing is that Zhou is ok,” said the British F1 star. “That was a scary incident and all credit to the marshals and medical team for their quick response. Obviously gutted to end the race this way and I'm sorry for the team and the fans. Cheering LH on from the garage.”

George Russell probably had dreams of taking home the trophy going into the race, which would have been his very first Formula 1 race win of his young, promising career. He knew that the moment he stepped out of his vehicle, he'd be considered out of the race and would be forced to retire.

To make that decision to check up on Zhou proved what a class act George Russell truly is.
