Formula 1 Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko reveals Max Verstappen has lost over 50 points in his intense championship rivalry with Lewis Hamilton this season.

It is well known that although Verstappen has largely sustained success this F1 season, there have been a few races wherein fortune did not favor the Dutchman all so much. Marko knows this and reveals that the British, Azerbaijan, and Hungarian Grand Prixs are a few examples of where Verstappen should have scored more points. Helmut also notes that they have been lucky in some situations as well that have helped with Max's lead on Lewis thus far.

At the British GP, Verstappen was ruled out of the race after a horrific collision with Hamilton on the first lap. Despite receiving penalties, Hamilton went on to win the race.

While at the Azerbaijan GP, Verstappen led the entire race, only to, unfortunately, retire due to his tire exploding on the start-finish straight with 5 laps remaining.

And as for Hungary, his collision with Valterri Bottas at the start of the race hindered his performance for the rest of the race, finishing only 9th on the day.

“The bottom line is that we scored more points than Hamilton in those grands prix, mainly because of Hamilton's race in Turkey where he was only fifth, while Max finished second in Sochi – certainly by luck as well, because of the rain,” Marko told Motorsport.com.

“But even more remarkable is: we innocently lost Baku, lost Silverstone and lost Hungary. If you calculate the amount of points we lost carefully, then it's over 50 points in those three races.

It is quite impressive that Verstappen still holds a lead on Hamilton amid all the misfortunes. However, with 5 races remaining in the Formula 1 season, both Red Bull and Verstappen hope that these lost points don't come back to bite them in the end.
