G2 beat Team Heretics during their match in the second round of the Swiss stage at the VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: Masters Shanghai (2024 VCT Masters Shanghai), successfully securing themselves a playoff spot in the tournament.

Just like the previous series of the day, G2's battle against Team Heretics lasted three games in Masters Shanghai which ended in their 2-1 reverse sweep victory.

The first game of the series saw G2 get outplayed by Team Heretics 9-13 in Lotus. After that, G2 woke up from their slumber and proceeded to reverse sweep the series, winning on Bind 13-6 and Split 13-8.

G2's players had a pretty well-rounded performance as everyone, save for Trent “trent” Cairns, finished the series above the 40-kill mark.

From the top, Jonah “JonahP” Pulice had 49 kills to his name followed by Nathan “leaf” Orf with 48 kills, Jacob “icy” Lange with 46 kills, Jacob “valyn” Batio with with 41 kills, and Trent with a modest 24 kills.

Despite losing the series, Team Heretics had a fragging party as the entire team was above the 40-kill mark.

Enes “RieNs” Ecirli had the highest kill count amongst Team Heretics, ending the series with 52 kills. He is then followed by Patryk “paTiTek” Fabrowski with 47 kills while Mert “Wo0t” Alkan, Benjy “benjyfishy” Fish, and Ričardas “Boo” Lukaševičius each got 41 kills.

Team Heretics Beats G2 in Lotus

It seems like the Masters Shanghai scriptwriters had the winning teams of the third day start with a loss in their respective first games. As such, G2 suffered a 13-9 defeat against Team Heretics in Lotus to start their series.

In the first half of the game, G2 was behind Team Heretics 8-4, with the last four rounds of the half conceded to the team from EMEA.

In the second half, there was a spark of hope for G2 as they steadily racked up round wins. However, Team Heretics simply held on to their lead and thus the game ended in their favor.

Interestingly enough, none of the players from both G2 and Team Heretics broke the 20-kill mark in this game. Only PaTiTek was the closest to having 20 kills as he ended the game with a 19/10/5 KDA. Meanwhile, RieNs and Benjyfishy each had 18 kills in this game while G2's Icy had 17 kills.

G2 Starts Series Comeback in Bind

After losing the first game in this series, G2 kickstarted their reverse sweep comeback in this series by winning the second game on Bind 13-6.

In this map, Team Heretics drew a major throwback composition by featuring Omen on Boo and Sova on RieNs. To jog everyone's memory, these two agents were incredibly popular in Bind back in the early days of competitive VALORANT, back when the number of agents was still sparse.

Fortunately for G2, their competitive experience was the right counter to the throwback composition of Team Heretics. They had a commanding 9-3 lead coming into halftime and Team Heretics was unable to catch up to G2's lead before the game eventually ended in just 19 rounds of action.

G2 was so dominant in Bind that Icy ended this game by recording an ace, an ending they would actually redo on the next map.

G2 Completes Series Reverse Sweep in Ascent

To end the match, G2 completed the series reverse sweep by defeating Team Heretics on Split 13-8.

The third game on Split had a similar script as to what happened on Bind: G2 dominating the first half and then finishing it off after halftime without losing the lead.

Just like in the previous map, G2 had yet again another 9-3 lead in the first half. Considering that very large gap, G2 had a great safety net as they could simply afford to lose rounds. That said, G2 would then have multiple thrifty rounds in the second half, giving Team Heretics no chances at all.

In fact, the game ended with a thrifty ace from JonahP, who had a fantastic showing on this map with his 22/14/7 KDA as Breach.

G2 Secures Playoff Spot in Masters Shanghai

With the conclusion of the third day of Masters Shanghai, G2 joins Gen.G as the first two teams to qualify from the Swiss stage. On the other hand, Team Heretics will be facing home crowd team Fun Plus Phoenix to determine which team gets to the playoffs first in Masters Shanghai.

For the rest of the second round of matches in the Masters Shanghai Swiss stage, the first match features the Latin American team Leviatan going against the South Korean team T1 while the other match features the Chinese team Dragon Ranger Gaming squaring up against EMEA's FUT Esports.
