Rocket League – a unique sports simulation game where cars play soccer – will soon have competition in the form of Gravity Goal.
Citing anonymous sources, gaming industry insider Tom Henderson breaks the news that 2K Games is currently developing a new title called Gravity Goal, which is set to compete against Playtonic's Rocket League. The game appears to be a TRON-inspired game that lets players go head-to-head in 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 game modes, and is expected to come out on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
Both games will feature vehicles pushing balls to goals like miniature soccer with Hot Wheels, but one key difference is Gravity Goal's Twisted Metal-esque weapons. According to Henderson's report, “One slight difference with how Gravity Goal works compared to Rocket League though is with the addition of ‘discs’ that players can use to throw at the opposing team’s vehicles to cause damage. Images provided by sources show that these discs look almost like hockey pucks with bright LED lights, which cause the opposing team’s vehicle to either stop or slow down once they are hit with them. Both your own vehicle speed and the opposing team’s vehicle speed determine how much damage you cause to the opposing team’s vehicle.”
While popular, Rocket League never took off as a major esports title. It's amusing that 2K Games would like to compete against Rocket League – given how weak the market is right now. Perhaps Gravity Goal will revitalize the interest in this emerging genre, which could benefit Rocket League as well. In any case, we're keen to see more of this new game later on, especially when 2K Games start releasing official images and videos to promote this upcoming title. When the release date will be is currently unknown, and we also have no clue yet on when the game will be officially announced.
