Picks
- T1: Gwen, Vi, Twisted Fate, Lucian, Nami
- SGB: Kennen, Wukong, Sylas, Tristana, Alistar
The first game of MSI 2022 started with guns blazing as Saigon Buffalo immediately took action. In the botlane, Shogun on Tristana claim first blood upon slaying Gumayusi. Fortunately for T1, Keria trades the kill back onto Shogun preventing him from gaining any meaningful lead at this point.

SGB’s botlane refuse to sit still and farm and initiated another 2v2 fight, this time killing their counterparts in T1 without suffering any casualties on their own. Gumayusi finally fights back a few minutes after and claims a kill for himself, but BeanJ’s Wukong was there to trade it. SGB continue to punish T1’s disrespectful positioning and once again take the T1 duo down.
T1 decide to get some gold on their Lucian, providing him tower platings and some kills during some skirmishes. This macro play got T1 4k gold ahead by 20 minutes, a lead which rose to 6k after slaying 4 SGB members upon starting Baron Nashor. T1, now empowered with the purple worm’s buff, took down structures and earned a total of 7k gold on their Baron power play.
Zeus finally ended SGB’s misery by landing the few final hits on the enemy nexus.
Result: T1 win in 26:03 (T1 23 – 11 SGB)
Game 2: Team AZE (LLA) vs DetonatioN FocusMe (LJL)
Team AZE | Role | DetonatioN FocusMe |
Han “Lonely” Gyu-joon | Top | Shunsuke “Evi” Murase |
Juan “Dimitry” González | Jungle | Moon “Steal” Geon-yeong |
Tomás “Aloned” Valiente | Mid | Lee “Yaharong” Chan-ji |
Park “5Kid” Jeong-hyeon | Bot | Yuta “Yutapon” Sugiura |
Roberto “Straight” Guallichico | Support | Lee “Harp” Ji-yoong |
Bans
- AZE: Karma, Poppy, LeBlanc, Gangplank, Twisted Fate
- DFM: Ahri, Trundle, Lee Sin, Vex, Gnar
Picks
- AZE: Rumble, Wukong, Viktor, Samira, Nautilus
- DFM: Ornn, Graves, Syndra, Lucian, Renata
Detonation FocusMe started the mind games early. They tried to exploit the enemy's Wukong jungle and invaded him on his first buff. Unfortunately for the Japanese representatives, the play ended up being in AZE’s favor due to good decision making from Dimitry. DFM did not lose any members to this play, but it did put Steal very behind. Despite this, he manages to gank mid and gift a kill onto his mid laner.
DFM’s botlane also showed off, 2v2-ing their counterparts and claiming 2 kills for themselves.
This lead is consistent all throughout the map. They were ahead in kills, gold, and even managed to steal the herald away after Dimitry failed to sneak it. Yutapon utilizes his lead to get a Galeforce at 11 minutes. Also, the famous Umbral Glaive rush Graves makes its debut in the international stage this game.
AZE however, was not about to take all of this lying down. They stop DFM from encroaching any more of the map, and use the space they gained after eliminating two DFM members to claim the second herald. This went on to them contesting the third Dragon, wherein AZE Dimitry wins the 50-50. For their troubles, DFM claim the middle tier 2 tower.
After a few minutes, DFM saw a timing to claim the Baron buff in exchange for giving away another dragon. Afterwards, a fight facilitated by Harp on Renata Glasc flash-ulting AZE grant DFM a clean ace, which led to DFM claiming the W.

Result: DFM win in 26:34 (AZE 2 – 14 DFM)
Game 3: ORDER (LCO) vs G2 Esports (LEC)
ORDER | Role | G2 Esports |
Brandon “BioPanther” Alexander | Top | Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik |
Shane “Kevy” Allen | Jungle | Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski |
Ronald “Kisee” Vo | Mid | Rasmus “caPs” Winther |
Nathan “Puma” Puma | Bot | Victor “Flakked” Lirola |
Ian “Corporal” Pearse | Support | Raphaël “Targamas” Crabbé |
Bans
- ORD: LeBlanc, Twisted Fate, Lucian, Gangplank, Rumble
- G2: Graves, Ahri, Diana, Zed, Irelia
Picks
- ORD: Aatrox, Karthus, Yone, Miss Fortune, Leona
- G2: Fiora, Viego, Zoe, Aphelios, Braum
The draft diversity from teams all around the world is present in this game. G2 tried to ban out AD solo lanes because of the Karthus first pick from ORDER, and so they end up with Yone as the choice. The red side counter pick was granted to BrokenBlade and he opted for Fiora against Aatrox.
It was a slow early game, but G2 got a 500 gold lead just from being superior in lanes. The peace is finally broken when caPs’ Zoe solokilled Kisee in the mid lane. The Topfather’s counterpick doesn’t look like it mattered much after BioPanther solo killed him up top.
ORD continue to step up against G2 after catching out Jankos deep in the ORD jungle and Kisee solokilling caPs. Flakked’s Aphelios was gifted a whole tower in the bot lane.
Despite having a slow early game, the midgame was quite bloody with skirmishes happening everywhere. Amidst the chaos, G2 kept stacking dragons. ORD might be getting pushed back, but the threat of the Karthus Requiem still put pressure on G2. ORD soon attempt to slay Baron Nashor but G2 fought back. G2 overwhelmed them with sheer AoE damage mostly coming out of Aphelios’ Infernum R, and clean ORD out in exchange for Jankos’ life.

- G2: Lucian, Wukong, LeBlanc, Ornn, Nocturne

- G2: Gwen, Graves, Anivia, Zeri, Pyke
Draft was mostly as expected, aside from one facet: caPs playing Anivia.

Inspired on Karthus' fast clear put him ahead in tempo, but unfortunately botch the gank onto BrokenBlade's Gwen.
Article Continues BelowG2 return the favor soon after, and jojopyun gets three man ganked in mid. caPs on Anivia claimed first blood. A big fight breaks out around the Rift Herald. It started with a 1 for 1 trade with both Vulcan and BrokenBlade both dying. G2 claim the Rift Herald and jojopyun dies once more.
G2 continue to establish their lead in the map, and they are using their Anivia well in catching out the enemies. It was a slow game overall, but G2 claim the Baron buff after both teams traded junglers.
EG attempt to contest what would be G2’s third dragon but G2 is now way too strong for EG to fight head on. They lose a few members and G2 claim the infernal drake.
Somehow, ORDER did better vs G2 than EG did.
G2, empowered by the Baron buff, attempt to crack the EG base open, but Impact kept split-pushing and mowed down G2's bot side eventually claiming an inhibitor.
EG's composition as a whole lack damage with tank Ryze and Hullbreaker Aatrox. In an attempt born from desperation, the North American representatives begin hitting baron with all 10 players alive, and G2 promptly push them away.

G2 claim the Infernal soul, and then the Baron Nashor shortly after. At 30 minutes, they are up by almost 10k gold. EG made a last ditch effort to defend the base, but only manage to take down a single enemy. EG gets aced and G2 go 2-0 in their first day.
Result: G2 win in 31:32 (EG 5 – 13 G2)
Game 5: Istanbul Wildcats (TCL) vs Royal Never Give Up (LPL)

Berk “Farfetch” Badur | Support | Shi “Ming” Sen-Ming |
Bans
- IW: Diana, Twisted Fate, Leona, Karma, Renata Glasc
- RNG: Samira, Lucian, Kalista, Gangplank, Aphelios
Picks
- IW: Gragas, Lee Sin, LeBlanc, Jhin, Nautilus
- RNG: Gwen, Viego, Ahri, Ezreal, Alistar
HolyPhoenix received a lot of respect during the draft, pulling 4 AD carry bans from RNG. RNG soon ended up with a composition that is very mobile but no tankiness.
Agression is HolyPhoenix' brand, and he started early. He and his team ends up trading 1 for 1 in a play on the bottom side, but IW committed 4 people against RNG’s 3. First blood was claimed by Gala and a kill went to Ferret.
Wildcats were unable to find anything else afterwards, RNG were taking everything. RNG's mid laner Xiaohu had plenty of kills, and the team has 2 drakes and 6 kills total by 14 minutes. The bottom play aside, it was a very one-sided game. RNG clutched control of the map and never let go.
Gala and Xiaohu were finally shut down but the rest of RNG take down IW in a 5 v 5 team-fight around Herald. RNG take the Eye after winning the fight. Another fight breaks out. At this point, RNG are eating the Wildcats alive.

RNG’s domination continued and they obliterated the Turkish representatives.
Result: RNG win in 22:25 (IW 5 – 20 RNG)
Game 6: RED Canids (CBLOL) vs PSG Talon (PCS)
RED Canids | Role | PSG Talon |
Guilherme “Guigo” Ruiz | Top | Su “Hanabi” Chia-Hsiang |
Gabriel “Aegis” Lemos | Jungle | Lee “Juhan” Ju-han |
Daniel “Grevthar” Xavier | Mid | Park “Bay” Jun-byeong |
Alexandre “TitaN” Lima | Bot | Wong “Unified” Chun Kit |
Gabriel “JoJo” Dzelme | Support | Ling “Kaiwing” Kai Wing |
Bans
- RED: Gangplank, Graves, Kennen, LeBlanc, Ahri
- PSG: Lucian, Renata Glasc, Karma, Yuumi, Vex
Picks
- RED: Gwen, Wukong, Zoe, Jhin, Leona
- PSG: Gnar, Viego, Orianna, Aphelios, Nautilus
RED Canids found the first blood of this very slow game by cornering Hanabi. The first real fight happened around the second Drake which was eventually claimed by PSG after losing two in the fight.
RED continue their extremely aggressive style, fighting whenever possible. Every time PSG fights back, they simply do not have enough damage. PSG Talon were never allowed to get a single kill.
There isn't much to be said about this game aside from the fact that it was a well earned victory for RED Canids.
Result: RED win in 28:01 (RED 13 – 0 PSG)
