Konami has just greenlit the creation of new Silent Hill games by third-party studios, an unnamed internal source revealed.

According to an anonymous tip to VGC, Konami is planning to revitalize their hibernating Triple-A titles. This includes the likes of Silent HillCastlevania, and Metal Gear Solid. Konami's gamble to release Kojima in the wild and focus solely on pachinkos and mobile games may have backfired, provided that that pachinko industry has been struck hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Konami is looking to bring back their old, beloved titles. While this is great news for fans, this also validates, in a way, that Konami should stay true to their Triple-A roots.

This news first surfaced in February this year, with the same sources telling VGC. However, the new revelations on Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania give more credence to the new Silent Hill game rumors. The treatment for each of the three franchises is different. For Metal Gear Solid, a remake of MGS3 is being made, but by an external studio. For Castlevania, an entirely new, ‘reimagined' game is in the works, but by an internal studio based in Tokyo. As for Silent Hill, there are apparently multiple new games being made at the same time, all by external studios.

This is quite the reversal from when Konami executives historically refused to allow third-party studios to work on their IPs. However, internal troubles that have caused ‘timing issues' that forced Konami to pull out of E3, among other conferences, may be the reason why Konami's stance on outsourcing developers for their IPs has changed. Regardless, we do not have any information on when these games will possibly be released.

The new Silent Hill games being outsourced can be seen as a good thing. After all, Konami's latest Triple-A game has just flopped dramatically.
