In their latest fated international encounters, Paper Rex eliminates EDward Gaming (EDG) from the VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: Masters Shanghai (2024 VCT Masters Shanghai) playoffs.

In what seems to be a constant faceoff on international stages, Paper Rex went up against EDward Gaming in Masters Shanghai. Both Paper Rex and EDward Gaming were seeded teams in the Masters Shanghai playoffs. However, both teams lost their first playoff matches, with Paper Rex losing to G2 and EDward Gaming to Team Heretics.

As it is their destiny to meet again on an international stage, Paper Rex and EDward Gaming found themselves face to face yet again. This time around, Paper Rex would get the dub over EDward Gaming, thereby eliminating the last home crowd team in Masters Shanghai.

In this 2-0 sweep, all of Paper Rex's kills were spread evenly amongst the entire squad. At the top for Paper Rex was none other than Wang “Jinggg” Jie. He posted 36 kills and 11 assists as he recorded a 251 Average Combat Score (ACS). As for the rest of the team, Jason “f0rsakeN” Susanto, Aaron “mindfreak” Leonhart, and Khalish “d4v41” Rusyaidee each contributed 33 kills while Ilya “something” Petrov, who had the second highest average combat score in the team with 230 ACS, added 32 kills of his own.

For EDward Gaming, the trio of Zheng “ZmjjKK” Yongkang, Zhang “Smoggy” Zhao, and Wang “nobody” Senxu all surpassed the 30-kill mark. In descending order, Smoggy got 35 kills, ZmjjKK got 34 kills, and Nobody had 31 kills.

Paper Rex Takes Away Bind From EDward Gaming

To start the series, Paper Rex took away Bind from EDward Gaming. The map was picked by EDward Gaming during the map veto phase.

After losing the opening two rounds of the game, Paper Rex went on a six-round win streak to put themselves up 6-2. Eventually, EDward Gaming answered back with a four-round win streak of their own, thereby tying it up 6-6 prior to halftime.

In the second half, the rounds won by each team were evenly spread out. Paper Rex wins two rounds, EDward Gaming gets back with two rounds to themselves. That cycle went on but Paper Rex eventually won the game 13-11.

For this game, Jinggg and Mindfreak stood out as the two best players on Bind for Paper Rex. Jinggg finished the game with 251 ACS, 20 kills, and eight assists while Mindfreak had more kills with 23.

Meanwhile, Smoggy's Omen performance was not too shabby despite losing the game. He finished Bind with 25 kills, five assists, and an average combat score of 285.

Paper Rex Sends EDward Gaming Off in Sunset

As they are ahead 1-0 in this series, Paper Rex finished EDward Gaming in the second game. Paper Rex sent EDG off from the Masters Shanghai Playoffs after winning 13-6 in Sunset.

Paper Rex found themselves ahead of EDward Gaming 8-4 in the first half. After that, it was only a matter of winning just a few more rounds to win the series. Eventually, Paper Rex secured the game and therefore the series in just 19 rounds of action in Sunset.

In this game, it was F0rsaken's Breach that shone brightly on the server. He posted an average combat score of 291 while getting 21 kills and eight assists for himself.

Paper Rex Continues, EDward Gaming Exits in VCT Masters Shanghai Playoffs

As a result of their series, EDward Gaming bows down to their home crowd audience as the last Chinese team to be eliminated from the VALORANT Champions Tour 2024: Masters Shanghai Playoffs.

Meanwhile, Paper Rex continues their playoff journey in Shanghai. Their next opponent will battle the Singapore-based team in the lower bracket quarterfinals of Masters Shanghai.
