Pocky & Rocky Reshrined is coming out on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on April 21, 2022, for the Japanese audience. The game will eventually get an English release, but currently has no publicly announced release date for the West yet. However, Amazon lists the game's release date to be on May 31, 2022.

Pocky & Rocky Reshrined is a remake of the classic scrolling shooter game that first released in arcades about four decades ago. The game follows a shrine maiden (Pocky) and her trusty tanuki companion (Rocky) as they try to exorcise enraged spirits who sow chaos in the shrine and surrounding areas. The remake introduces new playable characters, including like the kami Ame-no-Uzume, the yokai monster weasel Ikazuchi, and the female samurai Hotaru Gozen, giving fans of the original more reasons to buy this remake.

For those who love top-down twin-stick shooters, this game might offer some entertainment. It has heavy Japanese Shinto references, which includes mystical creatures and motifs. The game offers bite-sized levels that players can pick up and leave at any time, which makes the game a perfect title for the Nintendo Switch.

I personally have very vague memories playing this game as a kid, and the trailer re-ignited some old, lost memories. I remember enjoying the game so much, so I'll definitely pick this up when it finally gets its English release later on this year.
