By now, the gaming world is fully aware that the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing has sued Activision Blizzard for sexual harassment within the company. Little did we know that the Department of Fair Employment and Housing is also investigating Riot Games of the same issue.
Apparently, DFEH’s lawsuit with Riot Games commenced back in 2018 and is still ongoing. DFEH alleges that Riot is executing both sexual harassment and gender discrimination against their female staff members. The DFEH also mentions that Riot is yet to respond to the agency’s demand to let their employees voice out regarding the matter.
Article Continues BelowThe CEO of Riot Games, Nicolo Laurent, allegedly conducted harassment and abuse himself. The plaintiff who filed a lawsuit against him was a former assistant of the CEO. During her three years working for Laurent, the plaintiff was continuously harassed due to her gender until the end of her employment. According to the plaintiff, Laurent would go as far as to invite her over to his house implying that they’ll be doing sexual activity. This all ended when the plaintiff finally decided to complain about her issues with Laurent to HR. After the complaint, the company decided to relieve her of her duties. Riot Games would later find Laurent faultless.
Riot Games explains that the delays are due to difficulty in tracking down their former staff members. They also mentioned that the company sent notices to the former employees confirming that they’ve never prohibited speaking to government agencies. But with how things seem right now, Riot looks like they’re stuck in a huge rut.
