The new Nintendo Switch OLED model has finally been announced and will hit stores everywhere on October 8, 2021. Now the question arises, Should you actually buy the new model? Or should you just stick to the old one?

The Nintendo Switch is a video game console developed by Nintendo and released worldwide in most regions on March 3, 2017. The console itself is a tablet that can either be docked for use as a home console or used as a portable device, making it one of the most popular hybrid consoles of our generation. The console is home to great games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Ever since the console was first announced by Nintendo back in March of 2015, fans of the legendary game company couldn't wait to get their hands on it. A couple of years later, version 2 was released. Eventually, a Nintendo Switch Lite was also introduced to gamers. A handier version of the original console.

Now, The latest OLED model is finally arriving just before Halloween. The device certainly has some fine upgrades that come along with it and a lot of people are torn as to whether they should upgrade or not.

Is it worth it to buy the Nintendo Switch OLED as an upgrade for existing Switch owners?

First off, let's jot down these upgrades. The new model includes a 7-inch OLED screen, a wide adjustable stand, a dock with a built-in LAN port, 64-GB internal storage, and enhanced audio. That's it.

Yes, the OLED screen is nice. No doubt about it. The adjustable stand? Great. It'll give me peace of mind not having to worry whether my switch would fall off the table or not. Built-in LAN port? Awesome. A faster connection is always nice. But where are the rumored  4K screen and new NVIDIA Graphics card? Nowhere? Really?

For people expecting more from the Nintendo Switch OLED model, these upgrades simply weren't enough. Sure, they made some big adjustments and added nice features, but truth be told, they could have done so much more. Even the simple Bluetooth audio support isn't there. Something Nintendo could have easily done yet they didn't. For some reason, they're still on that wired earphones trend. Not cool Nintendo. Not cool.

OG Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch OLED?

Honestly, at this point, it's really up to you. If you haven't owned a switch yet, you should definitely get the OLED model seeing as it's the latest version of the console. The Nintendo Switch OLED model will release at $349.99. It's $50 more than the original. But for $50 more, it's certainly worth it. For first-time owners I mean. I repeat. First-time owners.

Owners of the original Nintendo Switch can rest assured that they aren't really missing out on anything too major. But hey, if you have the money, unlike me, go for it. There's definitely nothing stopping you from upgrading.

All in all, the new display is a huge plus. But that's about it. It sort of seems like the other additional features were added just to justify the $50 markup. I'm kidding of course. The new model is great but it's just not for everyone.
