Genshin Impact's Unreconciled Stars event was a huge success. Now, miHoYo is not slowing down with their new content. Genshin Impact 1.2 update is just right around the corner, so we rounded up everything you should know about the upcoming content.

GENSHIN IMPACT 1.2 GAMEPLAY CHANGES

The biggest change coming in the Genshin Impact 1.2 update is the addition of a whole new region for players to explore. You've seen Mondstadt and Liyue, now meet Dragonspine. Dragonspine is representative of the whole patch: not exactly feeling like the holiday season, but very much wintry. The new region is found south of Mondstadt, covered in snow, very mountainous, and full of danger.

Meanwhile, winter in Teyvat isn't simply cosmetic. The cold, icy environment brings with it major gameplay changes. First off is the new Freeze mechanic. We know what you're thinking: isn't there already a Freeze mechanic? No, dear reader. You're thinking about the Frozen mechanic that immobilizes you when you get hit with Cryo attacks. The new Freeze mechanics is a status bar that gets depleted the longer you stay in cold environments. Once the bar drops to zero, you start receiving damage.

The new Freeze mechanic will surely introduce new items, skills, and equipment that will prevent or circumvent it. Pyro characters will also probably have ways to deal with freezing.

Expect to see new enemies, such as the golem seen in the trailer, as well as some Cryo-wielding baddies from Fatui. While we don't know much about them yet, but we're sure they'll be offering us a tough challenge!

INTRODUCING ALBEDO AND GANYU

ClutchPoints

Previous patches introduced banners that have 5-Star and 4-Star pairings. For Genshin Impact 1.2, miHoYo's feeling generous with two new 5-Stars. The first one is Albedo, a Geo user much like Zhongli. He's the mentor of Sucrose and is the focal character in the update's main questline. He uses a sword and seems to be the calm, noble, and humble type of character.

The other character is the bow-wielding Ganyu. She plays a smaller role in the story, at least for now. She's a cryo bow user, similar to Diona before her. We don't know much about her yet apart from her being a secretary of Liyue Qixing. Xiangling notes that she's a loner, always eating alone at Wanmin restaurant.

NEW EVENTS AND STORY MISSIONS

With new characters and a new region also come new events and story missions. Genshin Impact 1.2 will continue the main storyline of the Traveler's journey, as well as adding more subquests and minor storylines. The game is always full of surprises, and we can expect the upcoming update to give us a lot of new content. However, miHoYo's also generous enough to share with us some details, including the upcoming Events for the update.

The Chalk Prince and the Dragon – this questline features Albedo and Sucrose prominently. Similar to the Unreconciled Stars event, the quest will be composed of multiple parts that you will unlock on different days. You'll then have to finish the quests in sequence and get rewards perfect for Albedo in the end.

Lost Riches – this treasure hunting quest lets you take home a pet Seelie in the end, along with some rare resources and materials.

Hypostatic Symphony – this event features the elemental cubes prominently. Each one of the cubes is featured in the teaser trailer, so we expect to see all of them at this event. Having them shown side by side makes us think that you might have to prepare to fight all of them together at the same time, or at least in sequence. Better start investing in new elements if you haven't yet.

Marvelous Merchandise – we've seen this type of quest before. You'll be searching for a shady-looking merchant in a different location each day. You'll have to trade in some resources in exchange for his marvelous merchandise.

NEW POINTS OF INTERESTS AND FEATURES IN GENSHIN IMPACT 1.2 UPDATE

ClutchPoints

Aside from new quests and events, Genshin Impact 1.2 update also brings with it a variety of new features and points of interest in the game. These items were also revealed alongside the new events in the teaser trailer.

Frostbearing Tree – in what might be the most Christmas-y feature of the whole new update, you'll be offering tribute to the Frostbearing Tree in return for some wonderful (and rare) rewards.

In the Mountains – following trails shouldn't be too hard for the Traveler, so spotting glowing plants around the mountains shouldn't be a problem. See where they lead you, and you might find some valuable treasure.

Dragonspine Spear – you will be given a recipe to create a powerful spear, but you'll also have to find the materials required to craft it. Search for the remains of a giant beast at Wyrmcrest Valley, and prepare to get your hands dirty.

WHEN WILL GENSHIN IMPACT 1.2 UPDATE RELEASE?

MiHoYo's pace has been fast so far, with an average of one major update every month. That's why the next chapter to the Traveler's adventures will become available as early as next week, December 23, 2020. Until then, you still have enough time to roll for Zhongli, and build him to the best version of the Geo Archon as possible.

GENSHIN IMPACT RELEASE DATE FOR THE SWITCH

MiHoYo's pace in their updates doesn't necessarily translate to their speed at releasing the promised Nintendo Switch port. It looks like the game developers are more focused on releasing content as frequently as possible, so the Switch port may still be a long way off. While it was originally slated for 2020, it seems like we won't be seeing a Switch version unless we experience a miracle.

However, there might be some hope. Genshin Impact's 1.3 update won't be coming until February 2021. This might mean that miHoYo will be focusing on the Switch release in January. However, it's just as equally like that January will just serve as a buffer to give miHoYo's staff a break. While we would like to wish miHoYo's staff some much-deserved rest, we still want to see the Switch release sooner than later.
