Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart and his Bulldogs are currently gearing up for the 2024 college football season, which is set to begin later this month. The Bulldogs are coming off of another undefeated season but an SEC Championship Game loss to Smart's former mentor Nick Saban and Alabama, which ultimately ended Georgia's chances of defending its two straight national championships.

One player who was forced to miss last season due to injury was running back Branson Robinson, who sustained a ruptured patella tendon a year ago and is still working his way back.

However, the good news is that Robinson's progress seems to be going well in that he is now available to practice without limitations.

“We will have some load management with him,” Smart said, via Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald.

“It’s not a shock to me that he’s able to start going without limitations,” Smart said, “but the load management is critical because you can’t take someone who hasn’t done everything and just throw them into everything. We’ve got to be smart about that. It’s certainly promising.”

Smart also spoke on what his expectations for Robinson were before the unfortunate setback.

“I remember thinking, golly, this guy was getting ready to have a great season, great camp and then he has to go back,” Smart said. “You forget the blitz pickups, you forget all the things he missed out on that he didn’t get a chance to do. Now, I know he’s looking forward to it and we’re excited to get him out there.”

Robinson hails from Canton, Mississippi and is an explosive athlete at 5'10”, 220 pounds.

Can the Bulldogs bounce back?

As previously mentioned, last year was something of a bizarre season for Georgia football (and everyone in college football, for that matter), as the team went undefeated in the regular season, which in quite literally every other year would have guaranteed them a spot in the four-game playoff pool, regardless of their result in the SEC Championship Game.

Unfortunately for Georgia, the amount of legitimate playoff contenders necessitated that they win the game vs Nick Saban and Alabama, which they were unable to do. Even Florida State, who went undefeated and won their conference championship game, missed out on the big dance.

This year, Georgia is expected to open the season at number one in the country and is widely considered to have one of the, if not the best depth of talent in the entire college football landscape. They will begin their quest for a third championship in four years later this month vs the Clemson Tigers in Atlanta.
