Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson is one of the best running backs of all time and he knows a good running back when he sees one, and that's what he sees in New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley. Peterson first took notice of Barkley at Penn State but wanted to wait until he got to the NFL to make a judgment on him.

“For me, I want to see what he’s going to do once he gets into the NFL,” Peterson said via John Keim of ESPN. “I was like, ‘OK, this kid’s got something.’ Just keep watching, keep watching and each time I see him I’m like, ‘OK, this kid can be really good.'

“I always sit back and watch young guys when they come in and he’s one of those guys that really excites me.

Since coming into the league Barkley has done exactly what he did at Penn State, break long runs and catch the ball out of the backfield. Barkley has 481 yards on the ground and also has racked up another 424 receiving.

There have been a lot of other good running backs that have come into the league the last few years but Peterson thinks that Barkley is different.

“He’s the guy that stands out a little more than what I’ve seen in the past few years,” Peterson said. “Todd Gurley is a guy that has great potential as well. He falls in that same category, but they’re two different styles of players. I would say the biggest thing is one is just more elusive. Which one is that?”

When asked if the more elusive one is Barkley, Peterson answered yes. The two will share the same field on Sunday when the Redskins and Giants face off and it should feature a lot of big gains on the ground.
