The New York Giants essentially needed one more first down to ground the Philadelphia Eagles' comeback attempt in the fourth quarter of Thursday night's NFC East matchup.

On a crucial 3rd-and-6 with just over two minutes remaining and New York clinging to a 21-16 lead, tight end Evan Engram broke free along the left sideline after beating safety Will Parks on a man-to-man slot fade. Quarterback Daniel Jones lofted a dime in his direction that should have delivered the Giants their second victory of the season — only for Engram to let the ball fall through his hands.

A reception would have given the Giants a first down inside the Eagles' 25-yard line at the two-minute warning.

The drop led to a Giants punt, and the defense was unable to prevent QB Carson Wentz from leading his team down the field in six plays for his second touchdown drive in the final quarter. Philadelphia held on for an improbable 22-21 win at Lincoln Financial Field.

After the game, Engram was noticeably upset with himself for the drop.

“Got the look we wanted. DJ threw a great ball. Just didn’t finish the play. One hundred percent I got to make that play,” Engram said, via Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. “Sucky feeling.”

The Eagles had two timeouts remaining, meaning the Giants could have at least spelled nearly another minute of clock before attempting a field goal to extend the lead to eight (though Giants kicker Graham Gano was dealing with a leg injury).

Engram had six catches (nine targets) for 46 yards in the loss.

New York fell to 1-6 on the season, and are still looking for their first road win. The clutch win keeps Philadelphia, laughably, in pole position in the division at 2-4-1.
