The New York Giants added a pass catcher ahead of the 2019 season after trading away Odell Beckham Jr. just days ago. Veteran wide receiver Golden Tate is not going very far, as he will stay in the division and join the Giants on a surprising deal worth $37.5 million over four years. The deal guarantees Tate $23 million and sets him up at just under $10 million a season.

The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly also had interest in the veteran receiver.

While Tate will have his work cut out for him in New York, the team realistically had no choice but to nab the last remaining free agent wide receiver that could give them any kind of chance on offense going forward.

The void Beckham Jr. leaves behind is irreplaceable and it's likely going to impossible for the team to recover from giving up a franchise player like him. Tate has a very reliable receiver over the years and actually saw his career take off with the Detroit Lions.

Tate has not missed a game in several seasons, so the presence of a durable veteran presence is something any team would love to have. Tate, 30, got a lengthy deal for a player at his age, but the Giants needed to make the move despite it costing them a pretty penny.

Tate reportedly was seeking somewhere between $11-13 million a season, but the Giants were able to get Tate for reasonably less as he approaches his 10th season. The Giants needed a playmaker on offense and Tate got himself a nice payday, so as of right now the deal is a win-win for both parties.
