The New York Giants have already swung one big trade this offseason which landed their defense’s quarterback in linebacker Alec Ogletree. And now, they’ve swung another one which will send pass rusher Jason Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. ESPN’s Adam Schefter supplied the details of the big trade.

Another blockbuster trade: Giants trading DE Jason Pierre-Paul and a 2018 fourth-round pick to Buccaneers for a 2018 third-round pick and a fourth-round pick, source tells ESPN.

Pierre-Paul, 29, was a former first-round pick by the Giants in 2010. He’s a two-time Pro Bowler and was also First-Team All-Pro selection in 2011. He recorded a career-high 16.5 sacks during that terrific sophomore season and helped the Giants go all the way to win the Super Bowl. He also racked up 12.5 sacks in 2014.

However, Pierre-Paul infamously suffered a fireworks accident in 2015 which saw him have his right index finger amputated. To his credit, though, he has bounced back well after that major setback and has recorded 15.5 sacks over the last two seasons. He just signed a four-year, $62 million deal last offseason.

The Bucs, who have been desperately in search of pass-rush help this offseason, will be hoping for that same type of production for JPP moving forward. Tampa Bay finished with just 22 sacks last season, which was dead-last in the league. Pierre-Paul, who is a Florida native, will now be a big part of a revamped Bucs pass rush opposite defensive end Vinny Curry, whom the Bucs landed in free agency.

As for the Giants, this deal will make their draft much more interesting. While they are in need of a quarterback of the future, they might now be in play for NC State defensive end Bradley Chubb at No. 2 (or could possibly trade down to get him) after trading away JPP.
