It is usually teams or NFL insiders that break the news on offseason signings. However, it appears wide receiver Russell Shepard, potential new addition to the New York Giants receiving corps, took matters into his own hands.

Shepard had been released from the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason. However, he announced that he has joined the Giants with a post on Instagram.

The former undrafted free agent spent the first four seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He made his bones as an integral member of the special teams before seeing an increased role at wide receiver. He finished his tenure in Tampa Bay with 432 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

Shepard signed a three-year deal with the Panthers before the 2017 NFL season. He played a minor role recording just 17 catches for 202 yards and a touchdown. As a result, he was subsequently asked to take a pay cut going into next season before he was ultimately released.

The Giants have made some substantial changes to rid themselves of the stench of their disastrous 2017 campaign. Much of their focus has been towards fine-tuning the personnel on offense. Shepard will be reunited with former LSU teammate Odell Beckham Jr., who currently heads the receiving corps along with Sterling Shepard.

However, New York still has yet to establish who their third wideout in the rotation could be. That said, Shepard will have a chance to compete for a role in this revitalized New York offense. His addition could bring some much-needed depth at wide receiver and special teams as well.
