Fans of the New York Giants are holding their colledctive breath to see the extent of Saquon Barkley's knee injury.
Sadly, as it is with most knee injuries, the Giants fear that Barkley has suffered a torn ACL on Sunday, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Barkley sustained the knee injury early in New York's Week 2 contest versus the Chicago Bears. The All-Pro running back made a run early in the second quarter and was grabbing for his knee. He would be carried off of the field and ruled out for the rest of the contest.
Of course, a season ago, Barkley sustained a high-ankle sprain early in New York's season. Luckily for them, he would only miss three games and would manage to still finish with 1,441 scrimmage yards and eight touchdowns. However, if it is a torn ACL for Barkley, then it would immediately rule him out for the rest of the 2020 season.
If the former No. 2 pick is forced to miss any time, the Giants would be inclined to insert Dion Lewis more in the offense. Meanwhile, Wayne Gallman would likely see more opportunities in the offense as well. Gallman was the running back who stepped in for Barkley in 2019 when he missed time with an ankle ailment.
In all likeliness though, New York would probably look to add a running back in free agency if Barkley is discovered to have a serious injury. It goes without saying that, while the Giants expect the worst, hopefully Saquon Barkley is able to avoid a season-ending injury.
