Tiki Barber has incredibly high praise for Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry
Tiki Barber was named to three Pro Bowls during his career as he racked up over 15,000 yards from scrimmage and 67 touchdowns in 10 NFL seasons with the New York Giants. With that said, it’s safe to say that Barber knows what he’s talking about.
On the Pro Football Focus podcast 2 for 1 Drafts, Barber spoke to hosts Mike Renner and Austin Gayle about the running backs in today’s NFL. Despite the fact that Barber’s Giants have a top-talent at RB in Saquon Barkley, the former All-Pro has two options on who he’d take if he is a general manager.
“If I was picking a running back, aside from Christian McCaffrey, I would take Derrick Henry,” Tiki Barber said.
Like McCaffrey, Barber was one of the best pass-catching backs in the league during his time. While Barber’s single-season receiving totals topped off at 719 yards in 2000, McCaffrey became just the third running back in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards and gain 1,000 receiving yards in the same season.
As for Henry, the former Giants star would go on to explain what makes the Tennessee Titans star so special in his eyes.
“He’s big, he’s durable, obviously, but more importantly, situationally, he’s amazing. If you need to throw him a screen, he’ll catch a screen,” Barber added.
Henry was one of the league’s biggest breakout stars in 2019, as the former Heisman Trophy winner rushed for 1,540 yards and 16 touchdowns — both of which were league highs. Henry extended his dominance to the postseason, running for nearly 400 yards in the Tennessee Titans’ first two playoff games. They went on to upset the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens before being eliminated by eventual champions Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship Game.
