Gordon Hayward’s wife posts message about mean comments they received
When Gordon Hayward’s piece was published on The Players’ Tribune, Utah Jazz fans were understandably upset, especially after finding out that their franchise player has decided to leave their team to play for the Boston Celtics instead.
Many took to their social media accounts to voice out their opinion about his choice to bolt out of Salt Lake City. While many respected the 27-year-old’s decision, there were also some who crossed the line and issued threats to him and his family. His wife, Robyn, did not take things lightly and sent a message to their online bashers, with an Instagram post she recently made.
I'm excited to go on this adventure with this man! It's bittersweet leaving where we've called home and grown our family, but I'm excited to see where this path takes us! We are so grateful for everything Utah has done for us! ❤️ Also, as for all the mean comments and threats. Don't forget athletes are humans too. Treat others how you would like to be treated. It would never cross my mind to speak so negatively and so full of hate about oneself or their family.
Hayward was one of the biggest names available in this summer’s free agency, and many anticipated where he will play next. The C’s, Miami Heat, and the Jazz emerged as the favorites to land him, but he ultimately chose to go to Beantown to reunite with his college coach, Brad Stevens, for his biggest chance of contending for a title.
While it was expected that the 6-foot-8 forward will draw a lot of criticism for whatever he would’ve decided on, there were still some who may have said things that triggered his wife to finally speak out. Her caption on the photo was simple yet it sent a strong message that fans should be mindful of their comments, as family members of players also get affected by them.
