Much like how the Milwaukee Bucks rely on Giannis Antetokounmpo to lead them to the promised land, the Greece national team will need also need his services to lead them into the Olympics.
However, Greece national team head coach Rick Pitino isn't sure if The Greek Freak will be available for the Olympic Qualifying Tournaments.
According to FIBA, the Olympic qualifiers will happen from June 23 to 28, 2020. Greece will participate in the tournament in Victoria, Canada. They will face China and Canada in Group A, where the top two teams will advance to the semi-finals.
Just looking at the schedule, this is very close to the end of the NBA Finals.
Of course, Antetokounmpo's availability depends on how far the Bucks will go in this year's postseason. Should they reach the NBA Finals, Antetokounmpo's season will end just mere days before the qualifiers begin, giving him basically no breaks in between.
Giannis and the Bucks have every intention to go all the way and win the NBA championship this season. With that currently at the top of his priority, the reigning MVP might not suit up for Greece in the qualifying tournament. As much of a cyborg Giannis is, going straight into a tournament after a grueling season might be too much for his body to take.
Nevertheless, Antetokounmpo has always expressed his commitment and desire to represent his country. All of this will depend on how his 2019-20 season will end.
