Memphis Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks doesn't back down from anyone, not even the NBA's leading scorer in Bradley Beal. On Wednesday, Brooks had the tough assignment of shadowing the three-time All-Star, and apparently, things got a bit testy.

After the game, the hard-nosed Brooks was asked about Beal describing him as a ‘pesky defender.' The 25-year-old Oregon product, however, wasn't a fan of Beal's rhetoric and barked back (via Grizzly Bear Blues).

“I'm more than a pesky defender.”

Brooks and the Grizzlies ended up winning the first game of the second half of the season, dropping the Wizards in a 127-112 home rout. Beal was just limited to 21 points on 22 shots while Brooks finished with 10 points on 25 minutes of pure grind.

After the win, Grizzly Bear Blues also reported that Brooks studies a lot of film and takes it upon himself to be as physical as he can be, which is probably why he and Beal weren't the best of friends on Wednesday.

Brooks' numbers might be a tad underwhelming, but he's truly made huge strides since entering the NBA as an under-the-radar guard in 2017 as the 45th overall pick. He had a breakout campaign last season, especially in the NBA Bubble.

This season, the fourth-year swingman is averaging 15.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and 1.4 steals per game. And as Beal could attest to, Brooks' imprint on the game won't be seen on the scoreboard. He's a workhorse that's been often tasked to man the opposing team's best scorers. This is the main reason Dillon Brooks has been a staple of the Grizzlies starting unit.
