The Boston Celtics narrowly earned a 109-106 win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. Jayson Tatum led the charge with 39 points for Boston. Ja Morant revealed Tatum's true motivation behind leading the Celtics to the late-game victory.

“I was trying to talk him to miss a free throw late,” Morant said. “He (Jayson Tatum) told me, he gotta make it back home to put Deuce (Tatum's son) to sleep.”

Morant added that he's a fan of Tatum.

Ja Morant and Jayson Tatum are two of the NBA's brightest young stars. Additionally, they are both leading impressive teams. This matchup could realistically have been an NBA Finals preview. Boston made the Finals last season before ultimately losing to the Golden State Warriors. Memphis also faltered to Golden State in the Western Conference Playoffs.

But the Warriors have struggled to open the 2022-2023 season. Although there is still plenty of time to get back on track, the Dubs have not looked like the same championship team from a season ago.

Ja Morant and Jayson Tatum are looking to lead their teams to a Finals victory this year. But they also could end up competing for the MVP this season. Players such as Luka Doncic and Giannis Antetokounmpo will be in the conversation as well. But Tatum and Morant have realistic chances of winning the award.

Ja Morant will seek revenge next time the Grizzlies face the Celtics. And he will certainly hope that Tatum doesn't have to rush home to put his son to bed next time the Celtics and Grizzlies square off.
