Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is off to a flying start this season, but it ain't no fluke. He's out here making a point.

Ja's mindset propelled him to the Rookie of the Year in 2020 and then he followed that up with another impressive campaign where he led the Grizzlies to the first round of the NBA Playoffs. Despite his nightly dominance, Morant wasn't even considered for the All-Star Game and it's clearly something that's fuelled him to play the way he is right now. Via Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports:

“I was in position to be an All-Star my first two years and didn’t make it. That bothered me a lot,” Morant told Yahoo Sports. “So I just stopped focusing on that and just focusing on my play. I’m a winner, and that’s the main goal. If I do that, everything else will take care of itself. I just got to control what I can control and that’s my play on the floor.”

Indeed, the Grizzlies guard is playing with a massive chip on his shoulder and has proven that he is the best player from the 2019 Draft. Even better than the number one overall pick, Zion Williamson, who has dealt with a flurry of injuries.

Through four games in 2021/22, Morant is averaging 30.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per night on 46% shooting from downtown. Arguably his most eye-opening performance so far was against the Lakers as he erupted for 40 and looked like the best player on the floor, despite numerous HOFers around him on the other side.

Needless to say, if he keeps this up, Ja will undoubtedly be an All-Star in Year 3. The sky is truly the limit for the franchise cornerstone of the Grizzlies.
