In the wake of the loss of super-sub Zach Randolph in free agency, the Memphis Grizzlies could soon wrap up a potential two-year deal with power forward JaMychal Green, according to Peter Edmiston of The Commercial Appeal.

Both parties have made reported progress toward a new contract to get the restricted free agent inked before the start of the season, slated to make $2.8 million this season —- a vast difference from his near-$1-million salary from 2016-17.

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski also signaled to the progress toward the deal on Sunday.

Green had his best season with the Grizzlies in 2016-17, taking over Randolph's starting spot and scoring 8.9 points per game on 50 percent from the floor, 38 percent from deep, and 80 percent from the stripe.

These numbers were still dwarfed by the ones the veteran Randolph was putting up off the bench, totaling 14.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per outing, despite making only five starts in the season.

The Grizzlies will be forced to make a deal happen due to an arid market for big men and a pair of inexperienced players behind Green in third-year forward Jarell Martin and California standout rookie Ivan Rabb.

Green is a role player still improving and finding his niche in the league, but the team will need to secure his services prior to the start of the season to keep most of David Fizdale's core together for this upcoming run.
