Atlanta Hawks center Dewayne Dedmon has been shut down for the remainder of the 2018-19 campaign due to left ankle soreness, the team announced Sunday. Dedmon will undergo a non-surgical procedure in an attempt to alleviate the injury, with hopes that he'll make a full recovery ahead of the 2019-20 year.

Dedmon finishes the year having appeared in 64 games for Atlanta, including making a career-high 52 starts. He averaged 10.8 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest, shooting 49.2 percent from the floor overall, including 38.2 percent from deep, while averaging 1.3 makes from behind the three-point line.

Dedmon, who was in his second season with Atlanta, has emerged as a starting center over the past two years. His nomadic NBA career began as an undrafted free agent who first debuted in the league with the Golden State Warriors in 2013-14. He has also had stops with the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic and most recently, the San Antonio Spurs, before joining the Hawks.

Atlanta has dealt with crushing frontcourt injuries throughout 2018-19. Star forward John Collins was forced to miss the first month of the year due to injury, while rookie Omari Spellman has been shut down since early March. With Dedmon also laid up for the final the final six games of the season, Alex Len figures to see a prominent role.

While the Hawks were never quite in the running for a playoff spot this season, they have used the past year to figure out who could be a part of their future. Dedmon, who has transformed his game to include a consistent three-point shot, has made his case.
